Powerful Poetry with Pam Whitfield

Powerful Poetry Workshop with Pam Whitfield on Saturday Oct 1st 1 to 4 PM

Poetry packs a punch. Its brevity, compact language, and imagery give it unusual linguistic and visual power. How do we harness those qualities in our own writing?

Let Pam lead you in an afternoon of poetry: reading it, writing it, sharing it. We’ll play with writing exercises and explore techniques to make our poetry more powerful. Feedback is guaranteed, and the afternoon may end with an impromptu spoken word performance.

Dr. Pam Whitfield is an English professor, riding instructor, and horse show judge. She won MnSCU Educator of the Year in 2010 and Carnegie Foundation Professor of the Year for Minnesota in 2011. Pam lives in Rochester and performs in poetry slams and local theatre. She has published creative nonfiction, journalism, and academic scholarship.

To register for class, please contact office@lakecityareaarts.org. Class limit is 15. A suggested donation of $15 would be appreciated. A notebook, pen and refreshments will be provided.

This program is funded by Southeastern Minnesota Art Council program grant.
